Bao Ji (Fides Service) - Transform a course in Sacred Scripture into an engine to diffuse the Word of God, incarnating it as light for life, power of faith and guidance on the earthly pilgrimage: this is the goal of a campaign for Bible Study in the city of Bao Ji, diocese of Feng Xiang, province of Shaan Xi in north west mainland China. According to local sources several parishes mainly in rural areas organised Bible Courses to spread the Word of God under the guidance of priests and women religious.
After attending the course 50 Catholics in Lian Quan parish had become “messengers of the Lord”. They connected Bible teaching received with concrete life putting it into practice in evangelisation. Their first mission was to lonely old people at the local Home and weakest sectors of society. They tried to tell and explain the Bible with simply, popular language, exercising in this way a concrete activity of love and service rendering visible the teaching of the Lord. Six of those who listened to them explaining the Bible converted to Christianity.
In Cheng Tang parish, the priest and a few active Catholics used the evenings to share the Bible with other parishioners, sharing life experience in the light of the Word of God. Some took notes to transmit what was said at the meeting to people unable to take part.
One old man of Bei Yuan parish Fu Feng district said: “Sacred Scripture is the light of life. Only in this light, life has guidance, faith offers the strength necessary for the earthly pilgrimage”.
Zeal for study and diffusion of the Word of God has passed beyond the city of Bao Ji, to nearby towns and many faithful. (Agenzia Fides 26/04/2006 Righe: 28 Parole: 305)
