Bouaké (Agenzia Fides) - "The National Assembly in the life of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) of our country is the place for reflection, exchange and decision-making to guide our missionary commitment in our local Church. This year's assembly is part of the jubilee year of the PMS", explained Father Jean-Noël Gossou, National Director of the PMS in Ivory Coast, at the opening of the 81st Assembly which took place at the Saint-Joseph diocesan center in Bouaké (central Ivory Coast). Father Gossou reminded the participants gathered for the opening ceremony of the events at the center of this jubilee year (see Fides, 3/5/2022), underlining that they are a reason for thanksgiving. The inaugural conference entrusted to Msgr. Marcelin Yao Kouadio, Bishop of the diocese of Daloa and President of the Episcopal Commission for the evangelization of peoples in charge of the PMS, then developed the following themes: "Jesus faithful witness; the chain of witnesses of Jesus and the great challenges for evangelization in Africa". Reviewing these different points, Bishop Marcelin Yao Kouadio explained that "Jesus is the one who came out of the bosom of the Father and it is He who first speaks to us about God in the first place, and from there Jesus transmitted what "he had learned from his Father, generating a veritable chain of witnesses (apostles, first Christian communities, missionaries) who responded generously to the missionary mandate over the centuries. Today, mission belongs to all the local and particular Churches". At the conclusion of the work, the director of the PMS in Ivory Coast welcomed the commitment of the diocesan directors in terms of missionary animation. Among the topics discussed during the National Assembly, the celebrations of the jubilee year of the PMS scheduled for October 18 to 23, 2022 in the diocese of San-Pedro in the south-west of Ivory Coast. Next year, this important event for the life of PMS will be held from June 12 to 18, 2023 in the Diocese of Man. (SS/EG) (Agenzia Fides, 24/6/2022)
