Bogota (Agenzia Fides) - From June 22 to 26, the X World Meeting of the Family convened by Pope Francis will be held with the theme: "Family love: vocation and path to holiness". Bishop Marco Antonio Merchán Ladino, bishop of Vélez-Santander and president of the Episcopal Family Commission, has sent a letter to the families of Colombia inviting them to join the central event in Rome. The Holy Father wanted this meeting not only for those who will be in person in Rome, but to extend to the entire universal Church, organizing for these days in every ecclesiastical jurisdiction celebrations, meetings or activities around the family.
In this context, the Letter sent by the Colombian Bishops to families invites to look at the Holy Family of Nazareth, as a model to follow and live fully in the "strong, reliable, and forever" love that with Christ is and it will always be possible. "The Holy Family of Mary and Joseph is our example, first of all, because they were docile to divine inspirations and responded generously to the mission given" writes Bishop Merchán Ladino. Secondly, the Holy Family of Nazareth knew how to cultivate the characteristics of a home that bears fruit: love, obedience, tenderness, honest and dignified work, humility, creative courage, the capacity for acceptance, "which is the openness of the heart to know how to receive everything as a gift from God, and never as a merit or reward for one's own efforts". A third attitude for which we are invited to look to the Holy Family is "openness and care for life, overcoming any fear and indifference". The family cannot forget that it is "the sanctuary where life is born, strengthened and bears abundant fruit". Finally, we learn from the Holy Family to be generous in active participation in ecclesial life, in favor of marginalized families. The letter concludes by invoking the intercession of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, so that "full of the strength of the Spirit, we can face the challenges posed by the historical moment we are living, raising the flag of love, of forgiveness, of reconciliation, joy and happiness that are the consequence of loving as Christ loved us".
