VATICAN - Presentation of ‘Compendium of Catholic Social Doctrine’ at Zaghreb, Budapest and Vienna

Rome (Fides Service) - The capitals of Croatia, Hungary and Austria are the next stops for the five day tour undertaken by Cardinal Renato Martino President of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace from 23 to 27 April to present the “Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Catholic Church” issued by the Council in 2004.
At Zaghreb after presenting the Compendium to social workers and then to the media, Cardinal Martino illustrated the first encyclical by Pope Benedict XVI Deus Caritas Est 'God is Love' to theology students, candidates to the priesthood and religious life and lay Catholics. In Budapest, on the tenth anniversary of the institution of the Hungarian Catholic Bishops’ Commission for Justice and Peace, the Cardinal will open a commemorative event. Also in Budapest on Wednesday 26 April, at the Hungarian Cultural Foundation in the grounds of the city castle Cardinal Martino will give a talk on the organisation, aim and activities of the Pontifical Council he presides in order to promote Justice and Peace in the world. On Thursday 27 April in Vienna, after meetings with the president of Austria and the chairman of Austrian Parliament the Cardinal will give the opening address at the Conference organised by the Austrian Bishops’ Commission for Justice and Peace on the theme : “Religion in public life: religious freedom in the new Europe”.
