AFRICA/ETHIOPIA - "The Church is not yet an angelic community. It lives in the world without being of the world"

Robe (Agenzia Fides) - "The Church is not yet an angelic community. She lives in the world without being of the world, totally and seriously in the world. Living the reality of the world as an evangelizing presence is not always that simple. It takes discernment, intelligence, courage, transparency and significant economic means. What is needed is a synergy of love between clerics and laity which should not be taken for granted, but rather built. We are seriously committed to this path of constructive cooperation". This is what Father Angelo Antolini, Apostolic Prefect of Robe, writes to Agenzia Fides after a series of important meetings with missionaries and lay people involved in the Prefecture. "Among other commitments during the month of May, writes Father Antolini, I was in Addis Ababa for a meeting with Msgr. Angelo Pagano, Bishop of Harar, and the Apostolic Nuncio Msgr. Antoine Camilleri, in order to facilitate the process of first evangelization of the Somalis of this area, which we have already started with the pastoral agreement on the Gode mission, signed by the two parties in December 2020." The Apostolic Prefect continues by saying that he then went again to Gode where there is Sister Joachim who always commits herself in an edifying way in paying attention to the ladies in difficulty and their children (see Fides, 1/4/2022).
"Many are sick and afflicted by many economic, moral, often dramatic relational problems, but she is alone. We are looking for some girls or mature women with a good missionary spirit, who can accompany her, but it is not easy. May God give us a suitable person. With the two young people Abdella and Tesemma present in the mission, I worked on the irrigation system of the upper part of the mission where we intend to create a vegetable garden - in the desert - for the food needs of our community, which is small - four when I am there - but at lunchtime we are always more than forty", concludes Father Antolini.
