EUROPE/ITALY - Opening tomorrow in Rimini 29th National Meeting of Renewal in the Spirit: expected 20,000 participants from 1,900 groups from Italy and other countries

Rimini (Fides Service) - Tomorrow 22 April at the Fiera di Rimini there will be the opening of the 29th National Meeting of Renewal in the Spirit on the theme: “You are the people God has won for himself to proclaim His wondrous deeds” (1 Pt 2,9). This spring meeting will bring together about 20,000 participants members of 1,900 different groups in Italy and abroad. The meeting is part of preparations for the 4th National Meeting of the Catholic Church in Verona and the 5th World Meeting of Families in Valencia (Spain) and the Pentecost Meeting in the Vatican of Movements and new Church Communities.
The Meeting will be opened by the Bishop Rimini. Mariano De Nicolò. The 10th anniversary of the canonical approval of the RNS statutes will be celebrated on 22 April with a concelebration of Mass presided by Cardinal Camillo Ruini, president of the Italian Bishops’ Conference. Guests and speakers will include Cardinal Dionigi Tettamanzi archbishop of Milan; Cardinal Alfonso Lopez Trujillo president of the Pontifical Council for the Family; Cardinal Ersilio Tonini archbishop emeritus of Ravenna; Archbishop Stanislaw Rylko president of the Pontifical Council for the Laity; Fr. Raniero Cantalamessa preacher for the Papal Household; Ralph Martin testimony of the origins of Catholic Charismatic Renewal; Salvatore Martinez national RNS coordinator; members of the Milan. Ecumenical Council of Christian Churches.
The programme for 23 April Divine Mercy Sunday will focus on experience of the mercy of God and also a commemoration of Mgr. Dino Foglio former national spiritual counsellor and first RNS national coordinator who died recently. An afternoon mass will focus on preparation for the 4th National Meeting of the Catholic Church in Verona. The morning of Monday 24 April will focus on New Evangelisation and renewal of the Family in view of the 5th World Meeting of Families in Valencia. The afternoon will be dedicated the spiritual ecumenism with the intervention of members of the members of the Milan. Ecumenical Council of Christian Churches and the Mass will be offered in view of the Church Movements’ Pentecost Meeting with Pope Benedict XVI in the Vatican. On Tuesday 25 April the final talk will be given by national RNS coordinator Salvatore Martinez. “This is the hour of witness, the time to explain the reasons of our faith: faith takes nothing away from our life it enables us to hope despite protests and conflict”, said Salvatore Martinez. “it is faith shared with joy which generates brotherhood and excludes no one indeed it includes and ennobles the sufferings and anxieties which lie in the human heart: this we will live in Rimini, this is the spiritual commitment RNS renews year after year”.
