Bogotà (Agenzia Fides) - The evaluation, penetration and pastoral journey of the Church in Latin America and the Caribbean, in light of the Ecclesial Assembly of November 2021, will be the main theme of the Extraordinary Assembly of CELAM convened from 12 to 14 July 2022 in presence (see Fides, 24/2/2022). According to information released by CELAM, the Archbishop of Trujillo, Miguel Cabrejos Vidarte, and the Archbishop of San Juan de Cuyo, Jorge Eduardo Lozano, respectively President and Secretary General of CELAM, addressed the Presidents and Delegates of the 22 Episcopal Conferences of Latin America and the Caribbean that compose it, communicating the priorities of the Extraordinary Assembly.
In addition to reflecting on the challenges proposed by the Ecclesial Assembly in November, it will look ahead to the 500th anniversary of the event in Guadalupe, scheduled for 2031, and the Jubilee of Redemption in 2033. The meeting will also be an opportunity to assess the synodal journey convened by Pope Francis and the continental phase of the Synod. The Extraordinary Assembly will be held in the new headquarters of the Episcopal Council, located in the north of the Colombian capital. The participants in the Assembly will attend the blessing and inauguration ceremony of the new facilities. The last Ordinary General Assembly of CELAM was held from May 18 to 21, 2021. Coinciding with the Covid-19 pandemic, it was held online, and only a group of people from the Presidency and the General Secretariat met in Trujillo, Peru. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 5/5/2022)
