Thursday, 20 April 2006

Lome (Fides Service)- Over 8,000 priests, religious and lay people took part in celebrations for diocesan World Youth Day in the archdiocese of Lome capital of Togo, held for the first time at Tsévié, 8 and 9 April. Palm Sunday Mass was presided by Archbishop Philippe Fanoko Kpodzro of Lomé.
In his homily Archbishop Kpodzro mentioned the Message written by Pope Benedict XVI for 21st World Youth Day highlighting the value of the Word of God: “God says what he does and does what he says”. The archbishop urged the young people to love God and to love the Church. “The Word of God makes us free dissipating the shadows of fear” said Archbishop Kpodzro, asking the faithful to read and meditate the Bible also in the light of the Holy Father’s exhortation to young people.
The Archbishop of Lome invited the young people not to lose heart when faced wit the difficulties of life but to be strong in hope knowing God, because as St Jerome says “ignorance of Scripture is also ignorance of Jesus”. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 20/4/2006 righe 21 parole 216
