AMERICA/ARGENTINA - “Catechesis, as a privileged means of handing on the faith, concerns everyone”: Bishop of Merlo-Moreno issues pastoral letter in preparation for 1st Diocesan Meeting on Catechesis

Thursday, 20 April 2006

Merlo-Moreno (Fides Service) - Bishop Fernando María Bargalló of Merlo Moreno diocese in Argentina issued a pastoral letter in view of the 1st Diocesan Meeting on Catechesis for which the diocese has prepared over the past two years with an itinerary of reflection, discernment and formation. The purpose of the meeting is to “revise methods and contents of catechesis in its different fields and to adapt it to meet the concrete needs of the present day to hand on the faith the children, young people and adults” and “identify common plans to orient at the diocesan level the enthralling work of catechesis”.
In the Pastoral Letter Bishop María Bargalló urged Catholics: “to realise the importance of this diocesan itinerary” and that “walking it together means putting into practice a Church we wish to build. A church in which every baptised person may exercise his or her pastoral duty, according to vocation and gifts received”. The Bishop wrote “catechesis, as a privileged means of handing on the faith, concerns everyone; each one according to the position and task he or she has in the church in Merlo-Moreno”. The Bishop concluded his letter saying that “the Itinerary undertaken two years ago of which the conclusion will be the diocesan meeting is a time of grace for everyone". 1st Diocesan Meeting on Catechesis will consist of four sessions on four Saturdays 16 and 30 September, 14 and 28 October. The meeting will be preceded by meetings for catechists of the different areas to reflect on the situation in different parts of the country. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 20/4/2006 - Righe 19, parole 279)
