San José (Agenzia Fides) - As part of the Great National Mission that the Catholic Church of Costa Rica is carrying out, the enthronement of a Missionary Cross is planned in each of the eight dioceses of the country. The diocese of Puntarenas will begin on Sunday, April 24, at the 10 o'clock mass. In this regard, Bishop Monsignor Oscar Fernández highlighted: "A mission will be carried out in the 8 dioceses of this Ecclesiastical Province of Costa Rica. To inaugurate this mission there is a cross called the mission cross that will be carried to each of the Dioceses. Puntarenas begins next April 24 and we will receive it with pleasure and love. I invite you to participate in this opening ceremony. The cross will arrive by caravan from Esparza and we will wait for it".
The motto of the Great National Mission is "Missionary Disciples, bearers of hope" which is based on the biblical text: "Hope does not disappoint" (Rom 5: 5).
The Missionary Cross will arrive in the dioceses according to the established calendar: Puntarenas April 24; San Isidro May 22; Tilaran-Liberia June 19;
Limon July 24; Cartago in August (date to be defined); San José September 25; Alajuela October 23(World Mission Sunday); Ciudad Quesada November 13.
The Bishops of Costa Rica have called this Great National Mission to be an opportunity for every Christian, wherever he is, to renew his personal encounter with Jesus Christ, or at least decide to let himself be found by Him.
On Sunday, October 24, 2021, within the framework of World Mission Sunday. The conclusion is scheduled for Mission Sunday in the year 2023 (see Fides, 6/10/2021). (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 22/4/2022)
