EUROPE/SPAIN - “Go out to the whole world": reflecting on missionary vocation looking at St Francis Xavier: 3rd Missionary Youth Meeting organised by the Pontifical Mission Societies

Javier (Fides Service) - “Go out to the whole world” is the theme of the 3rd national Missionary Youth Meeting organised in Spain by the Pontifical Mission Societies 21 - 23 April. This year the event will be held in Javier (Navarra) so as to reflect on the missionary vocation precisely at the birthplace of the patron of the missions St Francis Xavier of whom this year the Church celebrates the 5th centenary of birth. The meeting is also an opportunity to share experience of missionary animation and cooperation in respective local churches, exchange testimony and compare missionary activity promoted by the Pontifical Mission Societies a diocesan delegations for youth ministry.
The meeting is open to young people over 18 who belong to parish or diocesan mission groups or are connected with missionary institutes. They will have the opportunity to visit Javier Castle, take part in mission workshops, listen to missionary testimonials. The meeting will include a prayer vigil on the theme of Francis Xavier . Mass on Saturday 33 April will be presided by Archbishop Francisco Pérez, military ordinary for Spain and national director of the Pontifical Mission Societies. Mass on Sunday 23 will be presided by Bishop Ramón del Hoyo of Jaen president of the Spanish Bishops’ Commission for Missions. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 20/4/2006 - Righe 17, parole 228)
