Rome (Agenzia Fides) - The meeting with the Holy Father will open the awaited appointment of the VI edition of CO.MI.GI., the Youth Missionary Conference which returns in presence this year after the "forced pause" dictated by the pandemic. "Back to the Comigi: The mission starts from the future", is the title of the initiative scheduled for April, 22-25, 2022 at the Fraterna Domus in Sacrofano, near Rome, where the last CO.MI.GI. was held in 2018.
"We chose to return to Sacrofano because we wanted to start again from Rome, from the meeting with the Pope - explains Giovanni Rocca, National Secretary of Missio Giovani -. The meeting with the Holy Father and the return in presence are undoubtedly the characterizing elements of the VI edition of CO.MI.GI. the great conference of young people that have the world and the mission at heart".
Organized by Missio Giovani in collaboration with missionary institutes, CO.MI.GI. is the event in which young people and their animators gather to renew their commitment to the universal mission of the Church. It is an opportunity to train and discuss major issues of global importance including the protection of the planet, inequalities, the encounter between cultures and religions. On April 22, after the meeting with the Pope, which will officially open the meeting, the young people will go in the same afternoon to Sacrofano where they will remain until April 25.
Reflection, prayer, workshops, convivial moments including aperitifs in the square characterized by the dialogue between young people and adults will mark these days.
"CO.MI.GI. 2022 will be an even more extraordinary event as it will be the occasion to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the birth of the Missionary Youth Movement of the Pontifical Mission Societies, today Missio Giovani - says Giovanni Rocca -. By retracing history we will project ourselves towards a new missionary impulse after two years in which Covid has locked us up within our geographical and existential borders and we will celebrate the Jubilee of young missionaries". Marzia, Marco and Miriam are among those who will participate in the CO.MI.GI. and whose stories and testimonies can be heard on the Missio Foundation youtube channel.
"Ours is a mandate made up of brotherhood, neighborhood, gestures, hugs, we cannot wait to meet and share that "get out and go" that distinguishes us - concludes the National Secretary of Missio Giovani -. We know we should be cautious but for us that of CO.MI.GI. 2022 represents a great "restart" in the context of the commitment of the Italian Church to send young people on missions". (E.G.)
