Mombasa (Agenzia Fides) - "Nuns are an essential component of the Catholic Church in the particular missionary activity of evangelization", said Msgr. Martin Kivuva Musonde, Archbishop of Mombasa, during a seminar on the little recognized role of nuns from various congregations in Kenya engaged in evangelization through different communication platforms. "Learning to complement each other and not to compete with each other, explained the Archbishop, who is also president of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of Kenya (KCCB), is the objective of the initiative of the sisters of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation wishes to achieve through a pilot test to support the development and network of communication nuns in the country on how they can evangelize by telling their stories of ministry. If this experience goes well, it will also be applied in other countries". The Prelate underlined the lack of attention and recognition given to the contribution of these personalities whose service "is rarely reported and, if done, is grouped together with other Church reports. It should also be added that even the sisters themselves rarely tell their own stories about their contribution to evangelization. There is an urgent need to do so in order to contribute to the promotion of the Church's evangelizing mission. The project will therefore serve to enable the sisters to tell missionary stories, through their own eyes and words". The initiative, promoted at the Pastoral Center of Our Lady Mother of Africa in Mombasa, is expected to "strengthen the collaboration of the network of communicators of Catholic sisters in Kenya, develop the capacities of the sisters already trained in this field and set up a team responsible for disseminating the apostolate of the sisters through audio, visual print and online programs".
