Mexico City (Agenzia Fides) - In a video message released for today, Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent and a Day of fasting and prayer for peace in Ukraine and in the world, the Mexican Bishops launch their "Message for peace". "We are united in asking the Lord for peace in the world", urges Archbishop Rogelio Cabrera, while Archbishop Ramon Castro stresses that "the most powerful weapon we have is prayer, let us use it with faith and hope".
21 Mexican Bishops from different ecclesiastical jurisdictions invoke God for "peace and unity for Ukraine" and ask Him to send his Spirit of love on all humanity. In the conviction that "the Lord Jesus is our peace" they invite us to intensify our prayer, our fasting and our penance, so that "Christ, our Lord, light of the nations, may enlighten humanity".
"We ask God for the gift of peace for Ukraine, for Mexico and for the world, committing ourselves to work for this", knowing that the Virgin of Guadalupe and San Rafael Guízar y Valencia accompany us "to be men and women of peace". Peace brings unity and life, "the presence of God is the presence of life and the presence of peace". "Peace is a gift of the risen Christ and it is a gift that we must keep in our hearts, it is a gift from God but also a commitment of man", they underline. Finally, the Bishops invoke God's blessing for all and the intercession of Mary, Queen of Peace, to preserve the world from the calamity of war. "The world is one home, humanity one family", they reiterate, and conclude: "Lord, bless Ukraine with peace". (SL) (Agenzia Fides. 2/3/2022)
