EUROPE/UKRAINE - The Don Orione Monastery in Lviv becomes a reception center for refugees and the disabled

Friday, 25 February 2022

Rome (Agenzia Fides) - "We have all gathered in the monastery of Lviv which we have decided to make available to refugees and to those in need. Our other priority is the protection of the 8 disabled children who live in our community. If the conflict were to arrive dramatically even here, we will be forced to take them to our homes in Poland or Italy".
Don Moreno Cattelan, an Orionine missionary, in a note sent to Fides gives an update on the situation. The religious held a meeting to try to foresee every possible scenario, especially for the protection of disabled children present. "Since last night - adds Don Cattelan - no one has gone out. We are all waiting. Our cleric will not be able to leave the country because there is a call to military service for all Ukrainian citizens from 18 to 60 years of age". "I ask you above all to pray for us. We will not leave the Ukrainian people. We will remain here!", the missionary reaffirms. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 25/2/2022)
