Santiago (Agenzia Fides) - This year the Fraternity Lenten Campaign will have the slogan "Chile reaches out to vulnerable families". After a process of national consultation with the dioceses, informs the note sent to Fides, it was decided that from 2022 to 2024, the contributions collected by the Campaign will be destined to support projects in favor of the most vulnerable families in the country.
The decision was made due to the serious humanitarian crisis that Chile and many other regions are experiencing due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which has had serious health, economic and social consequences. Helping families will therefore be the priority. With the funds collected during the campaign period, various projects will be developed for the benefit of families throughout the country, knowing that there are different types of "Family" that require everyone's support. The Campaign begins on March 2 with Ash Wednesday and ends on April 10 with Palm Sunday. More than 10,000 migrants have benefited from the projects carried out thanks to the Fraternity Lenten campaigns organized in the previous three years, between 2019 and 2021, which had migrant brothers and sisters as their main focus. Sixty-five projects have been funded between Arica and Punta Arenas, carried out by social action teams from dioceses, parishes and foundations that work continuously on issues related to the promotion of the culture of encounter and hospitality. The Covid-19 pandemic represented a great challenge for fundraising. This is why Caritas has activated the "Alcancía Digital", which allows contributions to be received by electronic transfer and thus allows people who want to collaborate to do so easily and safely.
