Mexico City (Fides Service) - On Sunday 2 April with a Mass in Mexico City cathedral Cardinal Norberto Rivera Carreras, archbishop primate of Mexico, launched a prayer campaign for Mexico and all Latin America organised by a group of committed lay people confident that “prayer is the best way to find solutions to serious threats facing our society”. The prayer campaign will culminate with a youth pilgrimage to the shrine of Christ Prince of Peace on 27 January 2007.
The campaign (www.oramospormexico.org) urges people to pray for Mexico and for the people on whom the country’s future depends: politicians, communicators, legislators, heads of educational institutes, those responsible for public security and justice, heads of institutions and organisations.... the organisers say “the situation in Mexico and all over Latin America is not easy: it is a challenge which calls for evangelisation in all environments and also for social participation and political activity. We face serious common problems: insecurity and injustice, corruption and impunity, extreme poverty and unemployment, degradation of the family and moral values”. This is the reason for the campaign which aims first of all to change the hearts of Mexicans who will take part and motivate those willing to assume this commitment.
