Wednesday, 5 April 2006

Hong Kong (Fides Service) - The secretary of the Justice and Peace Commission said a Seminar on the encyclical of Pope Benedict XVI ‘Deus Caritas est’ was promoted to discuss relations between the Church and society; to help the faithful understand better the Pope’s thoughts on Christian love; to underline concordance of the spirit of the encyclical with the Church’s teaching on human love and human dignity and the participation of Christians in the life of society. The Seminar held recently in St. Patrick’s parish was organised by the Justice and Peace Commission, the Holy Spirit Seminary’s Institute of philosophy and theology and the Chinese University’s Centre for Catholic Studies. The ecclesiastical advisor to the JP Commission Fr. Stephen Chan OFM., said: “the Encyclical presented nothing new, rather it brought to life old things which serve to strengthen and nourish Christians of today.” A hospital pastoral worker said: “I first learned about the Pope’s encyclical in a priest’s homily and the seminar gave me deeper insight into this important work. Now I feel more confident and ready to answer people’s questions.” (Agenzia Fides 05/04/2006 Righe: 14 Parole: 181)
