Yucatan (Fides Service) - About 2,000 young people members of 130 groups of apostolate are preparing for a mission of evangelisation and human promotion in villages in the Mexican state of Yucatan, known as “Diocesan Holy Week Mission”. The missions will start on Palm Sunday 9 April and last all week until Easter Sunday 16 April.
The organiser of the missions Fr. Juan Pablo Moo Garrido, vice director of SEDEC the office for evangelisation and catechesis of Yucatan archdiocese, said “this has become a consolidated custom which shows there is growing awareness of the importance of Holy Week a time when we recall the core of our faith”. The principal purpose of the mission is to encourage young people to live this important time of the liturgical year with a community in spiritual and material need. On Sunday 2 April in the church of Our Lady of Carmen (Mejorada) archbishop Emilio Carlos Berlie Belaunzarán of Yucatan presided Mass for the sending of the young missionaries and 120 special ministers of the Eucharist who will live this mission.
