Madrid (Agenzia Fides) - The "Star Sowers" initiative is back in these days, during which children announce Christmas with adhesive "stars" and thank, on behalf of the missionaries, for the contributions collected in October on the occasion of “Domund”, World Mission Sunday.
As Fides learned, today and tomorrow, December 18 and 19, the official "sending" of the Star Sowers takes place in various dioceses in Spain.
For those who cannot physically be there, the digital version will also be available, tested already last year due to the pandemic on the dedicated site where children can download and customize their own stars.
The initiative, born 41 years ago, from the intuition of the Jesuit priest Xabier Ilundain and Sister Carmela Suances, includes children to go to the streets to bring Christmas greetings from the missionaries, giving them adhesive stars. From Madrid it then spread throughout Spain to reach, through the Spanish missionaries, various countries of the world such as the Dominican Republic and Ethiopia.
"Star Sowers" is the best known and most widespread activity of the Pontifical Society of Missionary Childhood. It intends to spread the love for the mission to all children and at the same time to prepare the little ones to experience Advent and Christmas and, immediately after, Missionary Childhood Day. Last year, despite the pandemic, the use of digital media still allowed children to create their own digital star, which was then shared via WhatsApp, email or social networks. This year the digital option is maintained, even if several dioceses have organized the sending of the "Star Sowers" in presence, in compliance with the security measures in force.
