Asuncion (Agenzia Fides) - On Sunday November 21, Solemnity of Jesus Christ King of the Universe, Day of the Laity in Paraguay, the bishops invite to the celebration of Holy Mass at 7 in the morning in the Basilica-Sanctuary of Caacupé, respecting sanitary measures, which will be followed by the official inauguration of the Year of the Laity 2022, with the motto "They set out at once to proclaim Christ" (cf. Lk 24: 33-35).
In the message that the Bishops addressed "to all the People of God who walk in our beloved Paraguay, in particular to all the lay faithful", they recall that the passage of the Disciples of Emmaus (Lk 24: 13-35) has accompanied the walk of the Church in Paraguay, and in 2022 they intend to dedicate a time of reflection on the reality and mission of the laity.
"In the passage of Emmaus the Church identifies her path and experiences the grace that pushes her again - the Bishops write -. We see as a 'kairos', a time of grace, since the entire Latin American Church celebrates the event of the Ecclesial Assembly of Latin America and the Caribbean and the Universal Church the beginning of the Synod on Synodality, also coinciding with this year dedicated to our laity. As an outgoing Church, open to the world, we see these facts of ecclesial life, as opportunities that Providence indicates to us to meet, listen to each other, discern together and assume together the Voice of the Lord who always shows us the Way, the Truth and Life". After reiterating the essential character of the synodal process for the life and journey of the Church, the Bishops underline that in the great challenges of the present and the future, within the Church and in the world, "we seek the hand of God who blesses our walk and ask that the Church be filled with witnesses, true martyrs in all circles, like so many who have written our history, from the apostolic preaching to the present day and whose names are a living memory of the Gospel, like those that St. Paul remembers and greets".
The message of the Bishops of Paraguay concludes by inviting us to remember that "the Virgin is Saint Mary of the Way, who always goes in search of her children and goes out to meet everyone, no matter the distance, to bring the blessed fruit of her womb to the lives of many".
