Brasilia (Agenzia Fides) - To offer specific missionary formation to missionaries sent on Mission Ad Gentes, inside and outside Brazil: this is the general objective of the Ad Gentes Course promoted by the Missionary Cultural Center (CCM), organism of the National Conference of the Bishops of ìBrazil (CNBB). The three-week intensive course will run from November 1 to 19, in virtual mode, due to restrictions due to the pandemic, with daily four-hour classes each morning and the opportunity to further study in the afternoon.
The recipients are missionaries, deacons, consecrated persons, seminarians, lay people about to be sent to the Mission Ad Gentes. There are 20 participants in this course, including lay people, men and women religious and priests who are preparing themselves, are in the process of discernment or already on a mission. The enlightening text of the Course is the passage from the Gospel of Luke (10, 33-34), the Good Samaritan, who "saw, felt compassion and approached him". Thus the disciples of Jesus are invited to collaborate in building the Kingdom of God. "The formation of missionaries is a fundamental factor for the development of activities", says the presentation of the course. "It is above all necessary to make them responsible and to qualify them through an interdisciplinary debate which indicates ways of action, which provoke a renewed ecclesial identity, in line with the current historical situation. The course focuses on the person of the missionary. The formative path takes place through different and convergent approaches regarding the mission: human-affective dimension; biblical; historical; socio-environmental and geographic; theological; ecclesial; anthropological; pedagogic; spiritual".
At the opening of the formation course, the Auxiliary Bishop of Rio de Janeiro and Secretary General of the CNBB, Mgr. Joel Portella Amado, addressed the participants "a word from a brother who admires and thanks you". The Bishop, who is also president of the CCM, reflected on the "yes" of the missionaries and underlined the fraternity of the whole human family: "the missionaries leave the tranquility, so to speak, of their region, to show, to bear witness, that we are all brothers and sisters on the face of the earth".
