AMERICA/PERU - Solemn Mass in Lima and in dioceses all over Peru on 1st anniversary of the death of Pope John Paul II

Lima (Fides Service) - Catholics in the Peruvian capital have been invited to take part a special Mass of thanksgiving for the life of Pope John Paul II in Lima cathedral on Sunday 2 April at 11 am in memory of the ‘pilgrim Pope’. The Mass will be presided by the Archbishop of Lima, Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani and concelebrated by the papal nuncio in Peru, Archbishop Rino Passigato and the priests of the diocese. Rectors of the city’s churches and chapels, religious communities, Church movements, confraternities, delegations of Catholic schools and parishes are expected to attend the Mass. Civil, political and military authorities will also be present as well as the diplomatic Corps in Lima. On the 1st anniversary of the death of John Paul II special masses will be celebrated all over the Peru which he visited in 1985 and in 1988. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 31/3/2006 - Righe 11, parole 163
