AFRICA/UGANDA - Preserving and increasing faith and traditions: the bishops inaugurate the works in view of the synod

Kiyinda-Mityana (Agenzia Fides) - "In this synod on synodality Pope Francis has invited all of us bishops to be together as Christians and share the Gospel", said Msgr. Anthony Zziwa, bishop of the diocese of Kiyinda-Mityana, on the occasion of the launch of the preparations for the Synod convened by the Holy Father for the month of October 2023.
"It is the task of the Bishops of the Synod to discuss the issues on the agenda and to express their opinions", he said in a note from Ugandan Catholics Online sent to Fides.
During the meeting, which was held at St Noa Mawagali Cathedral, Bishop Zziwa, who is also president of the Uganda Bishops' Conference, invited all Christians to take part and live the path of this Synod.
"Preserving and increasing faith and traditions, preserving and strengthening ecclesiastical discipline", explained the the president of the bishops, focusing on the theme of this event: "For a synodal Church, communion, participation and mission". The opening Mass, celebrated by Bishop Sziwa, was broadcast live on Ugandan Catholics Online, Uganda Catholic Television and other local media platforms, as a testament to the great value of this Synod for all.
