Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The multimedia training course entitled "Communication is Mission" was inaugurated, promoted by the Faculty of Institutional Social Communication of the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross (PUSC), in collaboration with the Pontifical Missionary Union and with Agenzia Fides. At the presentation of the initiative, which took place on Saturday, October 16 in the Benedict XVI Hall of the University of the Holy Cross, those present (20 students including members of the Pontifical Colleges, consecrated women of religious institutes and one lay woman), listened to the speech of Msgr. Giovanni Pietro Dal Toso, President of the Pontifical Mission Societies, who explained "Why a Church on a mission is interested in communication". Also present were Professor Daniel Arasa, Dean of the Faculty of Institutional Social Communication of the PUSC, several lecturers of the Course and Father Dinh Anh Nhue Nguyen, Secretary General of the Pontifical Missionary Union, who focused on the theme "Biblical-theological foundations of communication".
"During his earthly existence - remarked Father Dinh Anh Nhue Nguyen - Christ revealed himself as the perfect communicator. He spoke fully inserted in the real conditions of His people, proclaiming to all without distinction the divine announcement of salvation with strength and perseverance, adapting to their way of speaking and their mentality. Communication goes far beyond the mere manifestation of the thoughts of the mind or the expression of the feelings of the heart. Full communication implies the true giving of oneself under the impulse of love; now the communication of Christ is truly spirit and life".
Among the recipients of the Course, there are especially the students of the Colleges under the jurisdiction of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples: St. Peter College, St. Paul College, Urban College, Mater Ecclesiae College.
The 2021-2022 Course, now in its third edition, lasts an academic year and offers training in the multimedia field to priests, men and women religious and laity. The specific purpose is to promote among the pastoral workers of Asia, Africa, America, Oceania a mentality that considers mass media as a way to spread the Gospel. The training course, in collaboration with the Faculty of Institutional Social Communication of the PUSC, uses methodological, theoretical and practical tools on multimedia communication (video, radio, photography, web, text, social media) to teach how to tell stories, news, events and experiences that characterize the mission of the Church in the contemporary world. The Course was born thanks to the impulse of the Pope's Message for the XLVIII World Communications Day of 2014, where Pope Francis affirms that "communication contributes to shaping the missionary vocation of the whole Church".
