Bogotà (Agenzia Fides) - "With joy and hope we received great news: Pope Francis has recognized the Church Conference of the Amazon (CEAMA) as a public ecclesiastical legal personality", said the Board of the Council of Latin American Bishops (CELAM). "The decision of the Holy Father fills us with joy at a time when the Latin American and Caribbean Church, on the basis of the Magisterium of Pope Francis, is proclaiming its option for synodality, collegiality, integral conversion with a prophetic voice, initiating and integrating networks, promoting decentralization". In the statement of October 17, sent to Fides, it is recalled that CEAMA is part of the process of renewal and restructuring of CELAM, and that the revision and approval of the statutes of the new body will continue their path in the competent bodies. From now on, CELAM expresses gratitude to Pope Francis "for his guidance, his closeness and his accompaniment in opening new paths for the Church and for an integral ecology in the Amazon region, the fruit of the process that was carried out by the Amazon Synod with a significant participation of the Holy People of God in this region", as expressed by the post-synodal Apostolic Exhortation ‘Querida Amazonia’. In conclusion, CELAM reaffirms its desire to "support the initiatives of our brothers and sisters in the Amazon region" and its own will to "continue walking together, as missionary disciples, so that our peoples may have life in Jesus Christ".
