Managua (Agenzia Fides) - "We share with all the people the pain and sorrow caused by the high rate of infections and deaths caused by the pandemic", while "we thank all the countries and international organizations that have donated vaccines for our people": writes the "Justice and Peace" Commission of the Archdiocese of Managua in a statement in which it regrets the "manipulation, politicization and management" of this problem. The text, sent to Fides, reiterates that this situation, however, "does not take away our hope for a better future, nor does it prevent us from being in solidarity with our neighbor". Quoting the Catechism (n.2237b) on the subject of political rights, which "cannot be suspended by authority without a legitimate and proportionate reason", the statement underlines: "we have lost a precious opportunity to correct the direction of our country and provide a solution to social, political and economic problems".
The message, addressed "to the holy people of God and people of good will", exhorts us to "remain united and attentive to the voice of the Lord", confident that those who are called to be Shepherds of this flock, with the light of the Holy Spirit , "will continue to enlighten, in difficult times, this people who have always been faithful and respectful of the Church and of her Pastors. The Church emerges ever stronger from trials ".
On Sunday, October 17, the diocesan phase of the Synod of Bishops opens in the Ecclesiastical Province of Nicaragua (October 2021-April 2022): the solemn act will be presided over in each diocese by the respective Bishop. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 16/10/2021)
