Rome (Agenzia Fides) - The Scalabrinian Year will begin next November 9, on the 25th anniversary of the beatification of Giovanni Battista Scalabrini, an exemplary witness of Christian life, missionary and father of migrants.
"We are concluding with gratitude the Jubilee of the 125th anniversary of the foundation of the Congregation of the Scalabrinian Missionary Sisters and we are beginning the Scalabrinian Year with great joy. These events fill our hearts with gratitude to God for the Scalabrinian charism at the service of the Church", explains Sister Neusa de Fatima Mariano, Superior General of the Scalabrinians, in the note sent to Fides. "St. John Paul II described him as deeply in love with God and extraordinarily devoted to the Eucharist, with the ability to know how to translate the contemplation of God and his mystery into an intense apostolic and missionary action, doing everything to everyone in order to proclaim the Gospel".
The Superiors of the three Institutes that make up the Scalabrinian Family (the Missionaries of St. Charles, Scalabrinian Missionary women; the Secular Scalabrinian Missionary Sisters) invited us to follow in his footsteps, starting from his sentence "Would that I could sanctify myself and all the souls entrusted to me". "Scalabrini was a model for the world and still is today, in a global world divided by incomprehensible walls. His passion for migrants is a key to interpreting contemporaneity which has its basis in the message of Christ", say the three Superiors of the three Scalabrinian Institutes in a joint letter: Father Leonir Chiarello, Sister Neusa de Fatima Mariano and Regina Widmann.
"Jesus lived as a migrant and refugee child. He gave his life for the world and today his expression is in the faces of those millions of people who ask for help".
Under the patronage of the diocese of Piacenza-Bobbio, the Scalabrinian Year will begin on Sunday, November 7, 2021 and will end on Wednesday, November 9, 2022. The theme is: "Making the world home to man". "It fits in line of Pope Francis' recent teaching - underline the three Superiors of the Scalabrinian family -. We invite everyone to collaborate by involving the local Church, the members of our institutes, future missionaries, the various groups of Scalabrinian laity and communities of migrants to promote initiatives also taking advantage of the suggestions that will be offered and that can be multiplied in the various contexts in which we carry out the mission with migrants and refugees".
