Abuja (Agenzia Fides) - Social media and TV are among the privileged tools used by the Direction of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Nigeria for the animation of missionary October. The preparations, which began about four months ago with the publication of the Pope's message for World Mission Day 2021, translated into the four main indigenous languages (Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba and Tiv), then continued with the massive distribution of Messages to the fifty-six dioceses and the sending of poster-invitations to the parishes on the Sunday dedicated to the missions. Prayer, in particular the Novena to Venerable Pauline Maria Jaricot, who will be blessed on May 22, 2022 (see Fides, 4/10/2021), characterized the month of October. It was launched by the local PMS and many faithful took part. All these activities and not only, have been promoted and disseminated in social media and also in some local media, in particular in the Catholic TV channel of Nigeria.
The daily programming of meditations, readings, reflections on Blessed Jaricot, the meditations offered by the International Secretariat of the Pontifical Missionary Union on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of the founder, Blessed Paolo Manna, distinguish the schedules of social media and TV.
The program is also enriched by a commercial created for the occasion and a video message by His Exc. Mgr. Bulus Yohanna, Bishop of the Diocese of Kontagora, to encourage all Catholics to pray and support the missionaries on October 24th. It will be Bishop Yoanna himself who will celebrate the Mass of World Mission Sunday which will be broadcast live on African Independent Television and Catholic Television.
To complete the initiatives for missionary October, a training and study session is planned for all the Diocesan Directors of the PMS of the fifty-six dioceses in Nigeria (October 12-15, in Akwa, Anambara State) in view of World Mission Day. (EG) (Agenzia Fides, 8/10/2021)
