AFRICA/SOUTH SUDAN - The vaccination campaign against Covid-19 takes shape and life

Saturday, 2 October 2021

Yirol (Agenzia Fides) - At last, tents for vaccination against Covid have been set up adjacent to the Yirol and Rumbek hospitals with all the equipment in operation, vans, scooters and bicycles ready to leave and reach the most remote villages, loaded with all the material necessary: tables, chairs, syringes, gloves, cotton, disinfectants and of course the vaccines in the refrigerated containers. "With determination and sacrifice, if you have the patience to wait, you can take steps forward in hope and confidence", writes Don Dante Carraro, President of Doctors with Africa Cuamm, who has just returned from the last mile where the campaign vaccination against Covid-19 has finally taken shape and life.
The priest, who is also a doctor, says that the fight against Covid cannot be paused or slowed down. "Today, we are even more confident in South Sudan, given that the safety of the roads and the collaboration of the communities allow this.
We must all get vaccinated, without excluding anyone, for the good of all, especially the most fragile".
According to Don Dante in the last month, in the surgical wards of the Rumbek and Yirol hospitals, there have been no hospitalizations for victims of gunfire. "Not even a single hospitalization, in a whole month". Public health activities in the villages and communities of the Lakes State have resumed and trucks with food and goods have started moving again. (DC/AP) (Agenzia Fides, 2/10/2021)
