OCEANIA/PAPUA NEW GUINEA - Commitment regarding the pastoral works of the Church of God: the Diocesan Assembly of Daru-Kiunga has concluded

Friday, 10 September 2021

Kiunga (Agenzia Fides) - "A church in which decisions are made jointly by all members representing parishes and individuals helps guide us and move forward on our journey of faith all together", said Fr. Andrew Moses, Vicar General of the diocese of Daru-Kiunga and Pastoral Vicar of the Diocesan Team for Pastoral Animation (DTPA), on the recently concluded 2021 Diocesan Assembly.
Priests, seminarians, religious, diocesan administrative personnel and representatives of the different parishes of the diocese located in the North-Fly, Middle-Fly and South-Fly districts of the Western Province, have gathered at the Blessed Peter To Rot Formation Center, led by Fr. Moses in the presence of the Bishop Emeritus Msgr. Gilles Cote', SMM, and the Bishop of Daru-Kiunga Msgr. Joseph Durero, SVD.
The meeting, which is held every four years to discuss the life of the Church and make recommendations, had the main objective to finalize some points of the diocesan plan for 2021. As reported in the note sent to Agenzia Fides, Fr. Andrew, underlining the importance of the Assembly, said that it provided a clear indication of the direction and plan of action necessary for the general well-being of the diocese.
According to Msgr. Gilles, the objective of the Assembly is to live and experience a deeper community spirit through sharing, dialogue and listening, walking ever more in the heart of Jesus Christ. "We will be strengthened and will be able to remain faithful to Him and bear witness to Him in the midst of all the difficulties, temptations and oppositions of the world. Living the spirituality of communion and embracing our Diocesan Pastoral Project was my richest contribution to the life, growth and mission of our diocesan Church", declared the bishop emeritus.
Msgr. Durero SVD, defined the Diocesan Plan as "our limbo in our journey of faith that we choose to undertake, which unites us as a Church and helps us to discover God. We are confident and collaborative in our work, in our life and especially with the people God has entrusted to us", he said encouraging all participants present to fully engage in the pastoral works of the Church of God. The Bishop thanked his predecessor for his dedication and ability to inspire the spiritual life of the diocese despite the diversity of cultures and backgrounds over the past 50 years.
On Thursday, September 9, a last Eucharistic celebration was held in the Cathedral of San Gerardo to officially launch the four-year Pastoral Plan of the diocese, which runs from 2022 to 2025. (AP) (Agenzia Fides, 10/9/2021)
