AMERICA/VENEZUELA - Pro Life-Venezuela forum calls for more synergy between organisations working to protect human life at every stage

Tuesday, 28 March 2006

Caracas (Fides Service) - As part of initiatives for the Pro-Life Week in Venezuela (see Fides 18/3/2006), organised by the Venezuelan Bishops’ Family and Childhood Commission numerous pro-life organisations and groups met on Thursday 23 March at the Bishops’ Conference offices in Caracas. The meeting served to consolidate a Pro-Life Venezuela Forum started last year to co-ordinate activity to defend human life from threats and attacks in society today. The Meeting was organised by the Bishops’ Family and Childhood Commission, Media Commission and Resources and Projects Office.
Forum coordinator Prof. Ludwing Schmidt welcomed the participants and gave a talk on “Defending the Dignity of Life past activity and future goals” highlighting threats such as the legalisation of abortion, euthanasia, and areas for special care, attention for teenage pregnancies, adoption, care for the elderly, information and family formation, schools for parents and education to love and sexuality. The participants agreed to strive for more synergy between organisations which work to protect human life at every stage, as called for by recent pastoral Guidelines issued by the Bishops of Venezuela.
