AMERICA/CHILE - September: from "Month of the Bible" to "Month of the Word"

Santiago (Agenzia Fides) - The National Commission for Biblical Animation of Pastoral Care in Chile, has decided this year to change the name of the traditional "Month of the Bible", which is celebrated in September in various countries of Latin America, to "Month of the Word". The reason, explains the note sent to Fides, is that Christians are not a religion "of the Book", but people called together, who listen to the voice of the One who is the "Word" made flesh, and that this Word is the one who "listens with pity, guards with devotion and explains with fidelity" as Dei Verbum recalls.
The objective of this name change, the Commission continues, is to emphasize that the Word of God must be read and put into dialogue with the challenges of the present time. "May the Word therefore guide our process of ecclesial, personal and community discernment. That we may discover in the Word our vocation as a synodal people who make a pilgrimage with the Lord". To give life to this "Month of the Word", various activities have been prepared for the entire month of September, which will be broadcast on the YouTube channel of the Bishops' Conference.
The appointment is for every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in September, at 7.30 pm. On Monday, on the theme "Word and Interpretation", we will try to illuminate with the Word some great concepts such as the People of God, Discernment, Synodality ... On Tuesday, the "Praying Reading of the Word" will gather the contribution of different dioceses and movements on their ways of doing prayerful reading. On Wednesday, with "The Word and Culture", some themes of the cultural moment we are experiencing will be presented: the Word read by young people, the Word read by women, the Word read by Migrations and the Word read in dialogue with the Indigenous People. All information and materials are available on the dedicated website prepared for the occasion. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 1/9/2021)
