VATICAN - On the first anniversary of the death of Pope John Paul II Rome diocese organises evening prayers in St Peter’s Square

Rome (Fides Service) - For Sunday 2 April the first anniversary of the death of Pope John Paul II the diocese of Rome is organising with his successor Pope Benedict XVI a prayer vigil in St Peter’s Square to thank God for the life of John Paul II. The prayer service will begin at 8.30 with Marian hymns and readings from the writings of Karol Wojtyla. The recitation of the Rosary will follow at 9pm led by Pope Benedict XVI from his window overlooking St Peter’s Square. During the prayer brief excepts will be read from the late Pope’s Apostolic Letter on the Rosary, Rosarium Virginis Mariae, written in 2002, and other works. At 9.37 the exact hour of the death of John Paul II one year ago, Pope Benedict XVI will address those present and impart his apostolic blessing. (S.L.)
