VATICAN - Appointment of the new Rector of the Pontifical Urban College: Fr. Armando Nugnes

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, has appointed Fr. Armando Nugnes, of the clergy of the Diocese of Aversa as Rector of the Pontifical Urban College "de Propaganda Fide" in Rome. He is currently professor of Dogmatic Theology at the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Southern Italy - “San Luigi” Section in Naples and parish priest “in solidum” of the Parish of Santa Teresa del Bambino Gesù in Aversa (CE). From September 1, 2021, the new Rector takes over from His Exc. Mgr. Vincenzo Viva, recently appointed Bishop of the suburbicarian Diocese of Albano.
Fr. Armando Nugnes was born in Naples on May 30, 1979 and has been a presbyter of the diocese of Aversa since 2008. After graduating in Law at the University of Naples Federico II, he began his formation at the Pontifical Campanian Inter-regional Seminary of Posillipo - Naples, earning a Baccalaureate in Theology at the “San Luigi” Section of the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Southern Italy. Subsequently he obtained a Licentiate and a Doctorate in Dogmatic Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome with a thesis entitled Spiritus donum. Hilary of Poitiers and the development of pneumatology in the Latin West. A "history of effects", published in Analecta Gregoriana. From 2010 to 2019 he was formator of seminarians at the Pontifical Interregional Campanian Seminary of Posillipo - Naples, remaining up to now Secretary of the Assembly of Signatory Bishops and of the Council for Economic Affairs, as well as contact person for the coordination of the "sixth year". He is a permanent professor of Dogmatic Theology at the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Southern Italy - "San Luigi" Section in Naples, led by the Jesuit Fathers, and visiting professor at the interdiocesan ISSR of the Caserta Area based in Capua.
He is currently Coordinator of the Two-year Specialization in Fundamental Theology - "Theology of religious experience in the context of the Mediterranean" at the "San Luigi" Section. Since September 2019 he has been a member of the National Governing Council of the Italian Theological Association (ATI). In 2019 and 2020 he was a teacher of the "Course for Formators of Major and Preparatory Seminaries of Mission Territories" promoted by the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples. In the past he led some retreats and workshops for the pupils of the Pontifical Urban College. He is the author of various scientific publications. On a pastoral level, he collaborated in some parishes of his diocese in Aversa, following some ecclesial movements and associations. He is engaged in family pastoral care and in guiding spiritual exercises with the Ignatian method. He is currently Canon of the Cathedral Chapter and Parish Priest in Aversa.
