ASIA/LEBANON - One year after the explosion, Caritas Lebanon takes stock of the situation as well as aid

Beirut (Agenzia Fides) - One year after the tragic explosion in the port of Beirut, which killed more than 200 people, injured more than 7,500 and left about 300 people homeless, Caritas Lebanon has organized a Seminar during which various interlocutors will alternate to testify what has been done so far to help the population so tragically affected (see Fides, 5/8/2020).
As can be seen from the note sent to Agenzia Fides, in the month following the explosion, Caritas distributed 17,213 hot meals and 4,020 hygiene kits to children and families in difficulty. Through community commitment, Caritas reached 1,624,958 people. Aid does not stop, in particular the organization is engaged in the development of programs regarding basic assistance, health, education, shelters and livelihoods.
The event will be held with a webinar on July 29, 2021 and will see the participation of the Secretary General of Caritas Internationalis, Aloysius John, the President of Caritas MONA Gabriel Hatti, the Caritas MONA Regional Coordinator Karam Abi Yazbeck, Fr. Michel Abboud, President of Caritas Lebanon, Rita Rhayem, Caritas Lebanon International Strategy Consultant, and Peter Mahfouz, Youth leader of Caritas Lebanon and member of the Representative Council of Caritas Internationalis.
Among the initiatives carried out in favor of the Lebanese population, there is the “Rosary for Lebanon” organized for this Saturday, July 24, by the Pontifical Missionary Union and the International Center for Missionary Animation (see Fides, 22/7/2021). (RR/AP) (Agenzia Fides, 24/7/2021)
