AFRICA/EGYPT - Appointment of the National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies, Fr. Andraws Fahmi Abdou

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On June 15, 2021 Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, appointed Fr Andraws Fahmi Abdoua as National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Egypt for a five-year period (2021-2026).
The new National Director was born on August 3, 1970 in Giza (Egypt). After graduating in Economics and Business at the University of Cairo (1992), he studied philosophy at the St. Leone XIII Seminary in Cairo, and theology at the Pontifical Urbaniana University, in Rome (1996-2000).
During his theological studies he also studied French and obtained a Diploma in Islamic studies at Pisai (1999). He was ordained a priest on 20 September 2001. After his ordination he was a formator in the St. Leone XIII Seminary (2001-2003), then he obtained a licentiate and a doctorate in moral Theology at the Alphonsian Academy, in Rome (2003-2007). Since 2007 he has been a formator and teacher at the St. Leone XIII Seminary in the theological faculties. Since 2015 he has also been parish priest in the diocese of Giza and since 2019 he has been Director of the Institute of Religious Sciences. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 20/7/2021)
