Jerusalem (Agenzia Fides) - Hymns, songs, invocations, Gospel readings, prayers of intercession, and at the end the prayer of the Our Father recited in Syriac: these were the simple gestures of spiritual devotion and begging that some 170 boys and girls from the Christian schools of Jerusalem shared by participating in the ecumenical prayer meeting convened for them by the Al-Sabil Palestinian Center for the Theology of Ecumenical Liberation, in collaboration with the Office for Christian Education of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem. The meeting was held in the church of Saint Stephen, officiated by the Dominican Friars, and also saw the participation of priests belonging to various ecclesial communities present in the Holy City. Most of the students who have participated come from five of the main Christian schools throughout the Holy City, such as the school of the Custody of the Holy Land and that of the Sisters of the Rosary in Beit Hanina. The organizers of the meeting presented the initiative as a contribution to promote the spirit of communion among young people from different Christian communities, offering them the opportunity to pray together also for peace in the Holy City, where coexistence between different faith communities has also recently been torn apart by the resurgence of sectarian conflicts. At the end of the initiative, several school directors have expressed their desire to reconvene periodic prayer meetings in the future, such as the one held this time in the church of the Dominican friars.
