AMERICA/MEXICO - “A society which does not respect the value of life, loses its principal and basic value, humanity”, says Bishop president of Family Pastoral Commission on “Pro Life Day”

Mexico City (Fides Service) - On the occasion of the national Pro-Life Day 25 March the Mexican Bishops’ Conference through its Commission for Family Pastoral issued a message signed by Bishop Rodrigo Aguilar Martínez of Tehuacan and Bishop Francisco Javier Chavola of Toluca, respectively Commission president and vice president, and an interview with the former.
The message states the primary importance in the whole of creation of the human person created in the image and likeness of God and expresses the hope that every person may allow Divine Providence to guide human development and world development with love and wisdom, but, the message says “some people behave as if they were the owners of creation manipulating and destroying it and the human person as they wish”.
The text underlines that the contents presented by the media “sexuality, contraception, lack of recognition of the existence and sacredness of life, manipulation of embryos, abortion, fertility treatment, euthanasia can cause people to doubt the splendour of the truth taught by the Sacred Scripture about the human person, created in the image and likeness of God”, forgetting that “life comes from God and therefor is good and always worth living, promoting and protecting”.
Bishop Aguilar says that life “is the foundation of all other human values”. Nevertheless the Bishop says, “today there is a spreading mentality which considers human life in all its stages as a reality subject to arbitrary and decisions of others rather than a good to be admired, protected and promoted”. Bishop Aguilar says “a society which does not respect the value of life, loses its principal and basic value, humanity” because “a society shows its civilisation when it is capable of protecting its most vulnerable members”.
This is why with the Pro-Life Day “the Church in Mexico aims to increase awareness with regard to the value of all human life under every circumstance and at every stage and to lead people to thank God for the splendid gift of life and ask him to make us responsible and able to care for life, protect it and live it”.
