Montevideo (Agenzia Fides) - Under the motto "God had a dream for St. Joseph ... what dream do you have for yourself?" the Church in Uruguay celebrates the Month of the Spiritual Professions in June. The President of the Department of Vocations and Ministries of the Uruguayan Bishops' Conference and Auxiliary Bishop of Montevideo, Luis Eduardo González, stressed in a letter published jointly with the Uruguayan Bishops' Conference, Monsignor Luis Eduardo González, Auxiliary Bishop of Montevideo, and Executive Secretary, Williams Vilarino, that this year the intention is to "support the initiative of the dioceses". Based on the message of Pope Francis on the 58th World Day of Prayer for Spiritual Vocations and with the Year of Saint Joseph in mind, the Department has produced a poster and digital materials for each week of the month, which will be available on the Department's website.
"The materials include suggestions for prayer and reflection in the search for each person's dream of their own vocation", explains Mgr. González.
The seminarians of the Cristo Rey interdiocesan seminary participated in the preparation of the materials.
"We encourage and invite all communities to be guided by the Holy Spirit and to discover or renew our vocation as a gift from God - concluded the Bishop -. We want to share God's dreams for each of us with young people, and celebrate them with joy and hope".
According to the Church's latest statistical yearbook, Uruguay has a population of 3,519,000, of whom 2,709,000 are Catholics. There are 9 minor seminarians, for the diocesan clergy, and 86 major seminarians, of which 31 for the diocesan clergy and 55 for the religious. There are 231 diocesan and 214 religious priests, 54 non-religious priests and 635 religious sisters. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 28/5/2021)
