Mangochi (Agenzia Fides) - A group of about 200 young women from all over Malawi have chosen to live their lives reaching out to others, in response to the Catholic faith and oriented to change the world. They are the young women of the "Catholic Girls Arise" movement, born in November 2020 after an online conference organized by the diocesan youth chaplaincy of Mangochi. Thanks to the commitment of the girls in favor of the physically disabled in the parish of Ulongwe, in the diocese of Mangochi, the volunteers were able to deliver wheelchairs, blankets, food and personal hygiene products to those most in need. "I was pleasantly impressed by the generosity of the girls who contributed to this project, showing love with simple actions that can change the lives of many", said Father Chris Sichinga, chaplain of the group, praising the young women of the "Catholic Girls Arise" for putting into practice the fundamental teachings of their faith. "It is a sign that they are managing to live what the Lord Jesus Christ and his Church teach".
Sister Theresa Mulenga, one of the members of the group, who has an advisory role in organizing the volunteers, said she was satisfied with the help she was able to offer, even with the small means available. "We raised the funds for this charity work at a local level through small contributions from members of the group and other supporters", writes Sister Mulenga in the note sent to Agenzia Fides. "When God blesses us with his Providence, it is essential to thank him by sharing with those who are most vulnerable or less fortunate". Those who benefited from the aid all expressed joy and sincere gratitude to the volunteers of "Catholic Girls Arise" for their willingness to share the little they have with their brothers in need.
