Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On February 16, 2021 Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, erected the national "Holy Family" major Seminary in the district of Mwendakulima, diocese of Kahama (Tanzania), and on 17 February 2021 appointed Fr. Pius Protase Rutechura, from the diocese of Bukoba.
The new Rector was born on May 3, 1956 and has been a priest for 36 years. He earned his doctorate in moral Theology from St. Paul University in Ottawa (Canada). Among the various positions held: teacher and formator at Rubya minor Seminary (1983-1992); Secretary General of the Bishops' Conference of Tanzania (2000-2005); General Secretary of Amecea (2005-2011); Vice Chancellor of the Catholic University of East Africa, Kenya.
