Maumere (Agenzia Fides) - "After the difficult moments of the tropical cyclone Seroja which hit several islands near ours in Flores (see Agenzia Fides 9/4/2021), aid is now being organized for those populations by many organizations and, in particular, by Caritas Indonesia in collaboration with the diocesan one of Larantuka. In our own small way, we Camillians too, together with a group of seminarians, managed to do a small missionary enterprise of charity by going to the island of Adonara, hit by the terrible typhoon, to distribute rice, food and many packages of clothing to more of 500 families", wrote Father Luigi Galvani, a Camillian missionary on the island of Flores, to Agenzia Fides. "The disasters seen were also aggravated by the fact that in that area there is also a volcano which in recent times has covered the mountain with enormous quantities of ash - continues Fr. Luigi. The typhoon's great rain brought ash downstream, suddenly submerging entire villages overnight, leaving a hundred dead and thousands of families without homes. The gratitude of those poor people was moving and they will certainly remember for a long time those who thought of them in this painful moment. On our return, we felt a little tired, but happy and also a little proud of having once again been good and concrete missionaries of the gospel". The missionary also said that the Camillians, in this difficult moment of Covid-19, continue the monthly distribution of food parcels to 150 children of poor families of the mission. "It is a great joy to see the smiles of these children with those of their mothers, but it is also our joy to be channels of Providence for them". (LG/AP) (Agenzia Fides, 5/5/2021)
