AMERICA - Viral haemorrhaging fevers have 80% mortality rate. Diagnosis kit for Ebola, Marburg and other infective diseases

Rome (Fides Service) - Laboratory researchers on infective diseases at Columbia University have developed a quick test to identify viral haemorrhaging fevers like those caused by the Ebola and Marburg viruses.
Increasing international travel, trafficking in wild animals, situations of widespread political instability and terrorism put infective diseases at the centre of public attention. Viral haemorrhaging fevers (VHF) are a cause of special concern because of to their high rates of contagion and mortality (over 80 per cent) and the potential danger of rapid person to person diffusion.
These fevers are marked by serious syndrome of various body systems with fever, state of shock and haemorrhaging also from internal organs. For most of these diseases there is no treatment said one of the researchers, so diagnosis is of primary importance. Rapid identification of the exact pathogen agent responsible for the appearance of one of these diseases is a critical factor for checking diffusion and adopting correct measures for public health.
