Turin (Agenzia Fides) - "The world today has, more than ever, an extreme need for testimonies, for people capable of going against the tide, of opposing the prevailing evil which divides human beings, which rejects or does not welcome the other person for who they are and not on the basis of their country of origin, the color of their skin or their social status". This is what Father Antonio Menegon, President of the Midian Orizzonti, a non-profit organization of the Ministers of the Disabled (MI) of the Piedmont Province, writes to Agenzia Fides on the occasion of Easter.
"This year again - continues the missionary - we find ourselves in the condition of living an Easter crossed more by suffering than by joy, more by death than by life. This long period of precariousness continues and never seems to end. There are, however, strong signs of hope and our life force will certainly prevail. Christ has risen - underlines Father Menegon - and this constitutes the guarantee of our faith which helps us to always look beyond, not to close in on ourselves, to resume the journey with great determination".
"In our small way we have sought to provide concrete answers in order to help solve the basic needs of life". The Camillian refers to the mission of Haiti which, last year, celebrated its 25 years of foundation. "Over the years, it has grown strongly, multiplying and strengthening activities in favor of the sick, the disabled, homeless families, work, care and education. With regard to the fight against the coronavirus, protective masks, disinfectant gels, gloves and gowns, but above all foodstuffs, were sent to Haiti because the deadly virus in Haiti is represented by atavistic hunger which has been aggravated by the pandemic but also by the violence which terrorizes the population, in particular the poorest and the defenseless".
Both in Haiti and Guatemala, in the Indonesian island of Flores and even more in Turin - concludes Father Menegon - Midian Orizzonti Onlus is committed to providing a concrete response to many families who are in serious economic difficulties, more than 540 in the city alone.
