Brasilia (Agenzia Fides) - On Palm Sunday, March 28th, the Lenten collection for the Ecumenical Campaign of Fraternity 2021 (CFE 2021) will take place. Fundraising, supported by the Brazilian Bishops' Conference (CNBB), is carried out across Brazil. In order to encourage the faithful to make a concrete gesture of charity, the CNBB media office, in cooperation with the Catholic Radio Network (RCR), has created working materials for social networks church-inspired television stations.
According to the executive secretary of the CNBB's campaign, Father Patriky Samuel Batista, the first concrete gesture is the transformation of the heart so that, through the Lenten exercises, it becomes a heart so that Lent practices will seek an attitude similar to that of Jesus. The special conversion in Lent is a condition for the beginning of a new time, which is characterized by love and appreciation of life. "The fundraising is a concrete gesture of fraternity, sharing and solidarity that is carried out at the national level in all Christian communities, parishes and dioceses. It is an integral part of the fraternity campaign supported by the Brazilian episcopate", explains Father Batista, who emphasizes how this year the appeal to charity is even stronger, "at a time like this when many families and their lives are being affected by the effects of the pandemic with job losses and food shortages".
Donations can be made on March 28, during celebrations in communities and parishes where the presences are authorized by the health authorities due to the pandemic. Those who cannot attend church services can contact Financeiro@cnbb.org.br by email.
40% of the donations collected as part of the collection are transferred from each diocese to the National Solidarity Fund (FNS) administered by the CNBB. The other part (60%) remains in the dioceses to support local projects through the respective diocesan solidarity funds (SDS). In 2019, the Bishops Donation Fund distributed an amount of R $ 3,814,139.81, supporting more than 238 projects. There were no collections in 2020 due to the pandemic. From February 10, 2021, the CNBB portal will publish a series of articles on each of the projects supported in 2019: www.fns.cnbb.org.br. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 23/3/2021)
