Mansa (Agenzia Fides) - "In the absence of the radio, it would be very difficult to reach the faithful, especially in this time of the Covid-19 pandemic. The radio is a very important tool because in this area 90% of the people live in the villages and are very poor. Very few people can access other forms of communication. Through the radio, even non-Catholics have the opportunity to listen to us. We also broadcast programs that touch on various themes: the promotion of women's rights, education, human dignity. The radio is listened to by nearly 500,000 people in this area".This is what Fr. Costantino Mulenga, Director of the Catholic community radio station of the diocese of Mansa, called Radio Yangeni, whose headquarters are in the central part of the city of Mansa, tells Agenzia Fides. Fr. Mulenga describes his career in the field of communication applied to pastoral care: "From 2017 and 2020, I lived in Rome for further formation of my vocation, and during my stay in Rome, I attended the Multimedia Formation Course 'Communication is Mission' organized by the Pontifical Missionary Union and the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross. When I returned to Zambia in September 2020, the Bishop of Mansa, and Mgr. Patric Zanga, appointed me Director of the Diocesan Communication Office and entrusted me with the responsibility of Catholic Community Radio. Working within the framework of this office, in particular on the radio, made me understand how important multimedia communication is in the pastoral field. The 'Communication is Mission' course was particularly useful and provided me with special preparation. If I hadn't taken this course, it would have been difficult for me to work well in this office. The world has changed, which is why multimedia communication has become indispensable in the mission of the Church. It does not replace the interpersonal relationship but helps to maintain a human and spiritual bond with the faithful". (MI) (Agenzia Fides, 15/3/2021)
