Cheongju (Fides Service) - Preparations in Cheongju for a diocesan Synod in 2008 to mark the 50th anniversary of the diocese continue. Recently the local Church published the results of a preparatory survey involving 40,000 Catholics in the diocese. The people were asked to answer questionnaire with regard to the main topics for reflection chosen for the Synod: mission; youth pastoral; clergy; re-evangelisation; social apostolate.
On the basis of the results the Synod preparatory commission formed of priests, religious and lay people will now draft the working paper for the assembly in 2008.
The Bishop of Cheongju, Bishop Gabriel Chang Bong-hun said in a message for the occasion: “The Synod will be an opportunity to listen to the voice of the community and find solutions for the most urgent needs in the various fields of pastoral care.” Declaring a local Holy Year for 2008 the year of the 50th anniversary of the diocese, he said “It will be a Jubilee Year to thank God for all his gifts. A year in which inspired by the lives of our martyrs we will pray for a new Pentecost outpouring of the Spirit that we may renew hearts and diocese and give impulse to new evangelisation”.
