Caritas Iraq

Rome (Agenzia Fides) - "The apostolic visit of Pope Francis is an important moment, especially in this season of Lent. It is a sign of hope for Christians, a message of peace and reconciliation for the various communities in order to build bridges with other faiths", comments Aloysius John, Secretary General of Caritas Internationalis, on the occasion of Pope Francis' trip to Iraq which began this morning, March 5.
"Caritas Iraq - reads the note from Caritas Internationalis sent to Agenzia Fides - sows hope and seeds of reconciliation through its presence and its works in favor of Iraqi communities, reminding us that unity will only prevail when fundamental rights as well as human dignity are respected".
Nabil Nissan, Director of Caritas Iraq, addresses the Pope saying that he is more than certain that the Holy Father will not leave them alone and will inspire them to be present wherever there is pain and suffering. "Our strength is inspired by our faith and our hope, both of which will be strengthened by your visit".
With material aid, the support of Caritas Iraq helps restore self-confidence to Christians, recognize them as citizens equal to other Iraqis, show the presence and support of the Church to the most vulnerable communities and offer Christians the possibility to live their faith through their service within Caritas.
The facility operates in four Iraqi governorates (Baghdad, Anbar, Mosul, Duhok) thanks to the commitment of more than 270 collaborators and some 200 volunteers. (MP/AP) (Agenzia Fides, 5/3/2021)
