Mbeya (Agenzia Fides) - "It is important that all of us accept the reality of Covid-19 and live by following the indications provided by the experts and by those who know how to contain the disease". This is the appeal made recently by the Archbishop of Mbeya and President of the Episcopal Conference of Tanzania (TEC), His Exc. Bishop Gervas Nyaisonga, in which the latter urged the faithful and the entire Tanzanian community to protect themselves against the coronavirus.
"The voice of the Bishops is a prophetic voice in these dangerous times, in which the world is struggling to fight Covid-19", declared the Archbishop on the occasion of the presentation of the 2021 Lenten Message released in Dar es Salaam, by the Bishops of the country.
"We have a responsibility to avoid the danger of contagion. We Bishops must fight for the health of Tanzanians and for their lives. This is why we urge them to protect themselves from the virus. Everyone should protect themselves and others so that they can have a nation with healthy people", he stressed.
Mgr. Nyaisonga urged the faithful to continue to take precautions according to the instructions received, to maintain distances and to wear protective masks. "The fact that we have known about the virus since 2020 leads some to think that Tanzania is an island that cannot be touched. We must all be responsible to ourselves in order to protect also and above all others, and to have a healthy, free and prosperous country. We must not be slaves to fear", noted the President of the TEC. "Let us pray and ask God to spare us this tragedy. God is close to us and has not taken away the responsibility of protecting our lives". (AP) (Agenzia Fides, 20/2/2021)
